The town of Vernesca, located 915 meters above sea level, is mainly made up of nineteenth-century and modern buildings. The homes are built of stone and some date back to the 18th century, standing out for their stone frames on doors, windows and mantels. The church of the Madonna del Carmine, dating back to the 18th century, has a bell tower for a single bell. The toponym "Vernesca" derives from "verna", a term that indicates a place full of alders.
The feast of the patron saint is celebrated on August 12th, although in the past it was celebrated on July 16th.
