Fonte Palumbo was founded in the early 1900s by Lorenzo Liberato. In 1918, Liberato also created a commercial business, which still exists, supplying typical products of the area.
In the area surrounding Fonte Palumbo you can find rare species of wild orchids. The name seems to derive from the presence of some species of birds, in particular the wild pigeons called "palombacci", which stop in the source. The location is also a popular place for trekking enthusiasts, with two paths starting from here: the "Italia" path, which crosses Monte Bilanciere to Cortino (Fonte Spugna) in about two hours, and the "Lupo" path , easier to travel due to its slope, which ends in Fonte Pignetica in just 30 minutes.
