Faieto
The hamlet of Faieto is made up mostly of buildings built in nineteenth-century and modern styles, but there are also some older buildings with unique features, such as a wooden vaulted passage and a niche for tying pack animals. The church of S. Andrea Apostolo has a small bell tower on the facade, which was added in a later period, and the date 1519 is engraved on its arched portal.
The name of the town derives from the abundant presence of beech trees in its surroundings, but its origins are unknown. It is thought that in the past these beech and fir forests were a refuge for the inhabitants of the cities along the Vomano and Tordino rivers, too exposed to Saracen raids and other invaders.
In the past, the town was located on the other side of the Fiumicello river, but due to a landslide that destroyed most of the houses, the inhabitants moved to the current location, probably two centuries ago. Faieto is located on the mountain called "Piano delle Macchie" and a stream, known as "Fiumicello", flows alongside it.
The feast of the patron saint, St. Andrew, is usually celebrated on 2, 3 and 4 August.
