Altovia is made up of a few stone buildings, built mainly in the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, which have been almost completely restored. In 1804, the town had 66 inhabitants and was part of the University of Roseto, while in 1814 it was part of the parish of Cortino with 63 inhabitants. During the summer season, the town attracts many visitors, but during the winter it is completely uninhabited. In 1921 the small church was built at the entrance to the town. The parish church of S. Egidio, mentioned for the first time in documents at the end of the sixteenth century, was located at a certain distance from the modern town.

The feast of the patron saint, S. Egidio, was celebrated on September 1st.
