Comignano mill
The Mill was active until 1975, with limited use for the last five years to grind wheat for the owners' family only. The current owner is Di Felice Giuseppe from Comignano, who has worked as a miller for the last fifteen years. Before him, the mill was managed for twenty years by his father Carlo and before that by his grandfather Pietro. The Di Felice family has owned the mill since time immemorial.
The construction consists of a single room with the millstone clearly visible on the site. The room underneath the mill room still has fundamental elements of the machinery for grinding flour such as the "bench", the "awl", the "preteletta" and the "ritrecine", but some blades of the ritrecine are missing. The roof of the mill has collapsed, while the perimeter walls made of squared stone blocks are still in good condition. In the rear part and upstream of the mill there is a large reservoir for the accumulation of water, essential for the use of the mill since the waters of the "Fiumicello" which fed the mill were scarce. Beyond the reservoir, stretches of "gora" are still visible, that is, the artificial canal that was used to create the final "jump" in height of the water that activated the grinding machinery.
