Church of San Martino
The Church of San Martino is located in Casanova, a hamlet of Cortino, and dominates the town center from above, which seems almost forgotten. Built of stone, it dates back to the medieval period, as shown by some documents of the time, and has undergone several restorations, including a significant renovation at the end of the 20th century. The church is accessed via a small staircase that leads to the churchyard and its austere façade with a gabled roof, interrupted by a mullioned window that provides light inside. The facade and the portal jambs are decorated with modern bricks, which stand out compared to the original architecture. Next to the main body of the church there is a massive bell tower, which ends with four arched single-lancet windows and which supports a bell, with writings testifying to its foundation by the parish priest and the faithful, thanks to charity. The interior has a single nave, with a raised presbytery area separated from the rest of the nave by a marble balustrade. In the town centre, a very ancient building stands out, dating back to the 16th century, which bears the date 1523 on an architrave. Furthermore, there is a curious building that has undergone an unfortunate renovation.
