Church of San Lorenzo
The Church of San Lorenzo is located in a hamlet of Cortino, Elce, located in the heart of the town centre. Built in 1600, the church is now structurally solid thanks to the restorations that have preserved its stability over time. The gabled roof is supported by the original beams and two bells are housed in a bell tower, which protrudes from the facade thanks to two massive exposed brick columns. The perimeter walls were raised to create large windows that highlight the corner columns and load-bearing components of the roof.
The interior has a single nave without an apse and the altar is located in the presbytery area raised by a step. There is an antique crucifix from the 1700s with a detailed statue of Christ and a baroque octagonal stone baptistery. Behind the altar there is a beautiful triptych painted on wood by the artist Mario Bianchi representing "Cristo su Elce".
In the sacristy there is a wardrobe from the 1600s with handmade doors and drawers which houses a Missal from 1675 approved by Pope Clement X. In the houses of the village there are dates dating back to 1789 and 1837.
